The Client

With an office in Cairns, our client is a registered Native Title Body Corporate holding interests for first nations people located in Cape York Peninsula. These interests include connections for a large expanse of land including mainland, coastal and offshore islands in addition to sea country within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Coral Sea. The Opportunity

In this role you will be responsible for managing the development of the organisation’s strategic partnerships, land and sea management and operational requirements. This will include the development of strategic partnerships, including planning, implementation and review processes, investigation of infrastructure development options and their development, fund raising, management of operations, and review and reporting on all these work areas. Responsibilities will also include contract management, procurements and staff supervision.

As the Operations Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with governing bodies who play an integral role in delivering our clients vision under their various plans and projects. You will also be required to build exceptional relationships with the organisation’s key co-management partners and stakeholders, including government and non-government organisations, industry, science institutions, technical experts, and businesses.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will require:

  • Demonstrated project leadership, management and organisational skills, including ability to write grants, work plans, contracts, reports, manage budgets and consultation processes, including for land and sea management and infrastructure projects.

  • Demonstrated experience and proven capability to collaboratively develop strategic, operational and work planning and management together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and strategic partners in the context of the Great Barrier Reef and the ability to implement work programs.

  • Experience developing key strategic partnerships and plans supporting organisational objectives.

  • Demonstrated proven ability to investigate and secure external funding/grant opportunities.

  • Ability to develop and maintain networks with Traditional Owners, key partner agencies and stakeholders and act as a key liaison point for Traditional Owners and partners exhibiting exceptional communication skills, information processing and summary reporting.

  • High level of written and oral communication skills, such as ability to produce reports and deliver presentations.

  • Experience and proven capability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

  • An understanding of historical and current issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, particularly in northern Australia and the Torres Strait and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Traditional Owners and their Elders.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Manual driver’s licence.

  • Eligible to successfully apply for a Blue Card for Working with Children.

Highly Desirable:

  • Previous experience collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their leaders while honouring traditional culture, values, and business practices.

  • Tertiary qualification with substantial experience in land management and conservation.
